I’m just a whore, a social media whore

I dabble with Tumblr from time to time. I don’t know why I do this exactly, but I’ve been told that if i want to remain competitive in the job market, I have to whore myself out to all things social media.

Personally, I find it all to be a huge pig fuck with very little return, which is why I only fiddle-fuck with Tumblr, Google+ and what-not when I’m not doing much except waiting to hear from my probation officer, or from my sugar daddy.

So, if you’re bored and have run out of things to melt with your lighter, check out my Tumblr:

I promise it’ll be somewhat amusing from time to time.

  1. Jules,
In which market do you want to stay competitive? Social media? Web strategy? There’s truth to be said about being present on most social media platforms when working in the field (that’s what i do too). But tumblr is just another blogging platform… You could indeed maintain another blog on tumblr, as long as you do not duplicate the same WordPress content… Tumblr doesn’t offer a CMS as strong s WordPress, but it’s worth knowing. I’ll go check you out on tumblr.

    • I want to stay competitive in journalism, social media, web content–and was told by “social media and journalism gurus” (hate that term when used in this manner) that I need to be EVERYWHERE because that’s what folks in hiring positions are looking for.
That attitude does speak volumes about how dumb and out of touch most hiring managers are–they’re looking for style over substance.
So, to imitate what Mongo so eloquently said in “Blazing Saddles,” “Julia only pawn in game of life.”

I know i’m being repetitive with my content–that’s laziness. I’ll work on it, promise!
      thanks.

      • I hit ‘post comment’ before I could finish. I need to stop responding to anything and everything before I’ve had a chance to warm up the caffeine drip.
I do know Tumblr is another blogging format. It’s ok. But, I like WordPress better. Just my two centimes.

      • Jules,
It’s good to expose yourself on as many SM platforms as you can be, but the risk in diluting your content will be there… I myself had to choose my battles, and decided to go with Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, G+, mostly. I tried to go overboard but I ended up duplicating my content and boring my audience.
As far as “social media gurus” go, if it wasn’t said by Chris Brogan, than you can take it with a grain of salt (and I’m not going to add an emoticon).

      • Thank you for not adding the emasculating emoticon. You are loved in Chicago for not using a cheesy image to convey your true feelings!

I agree with you–absolutely. My FB is pure fluff and you can’t get to it UNLESS you’re a friend. My privacy settings are tighter than a nun’s ass. I’m still trying to figure out Google+. Twitter’s ok, when I remember to jump on it. LinkedIn is my only pure professional social network. I even use my real name there AND on Twitter! ooh. ahh.
Oh and you’re not a guru unless you’re on an ashram in India. You can’t be white and be a guru. I wish hiring managers who use that term and expect a ‘guru’ would get dysentery.

  2. Man, I guess this is something else I need to do too. It’s all so overwhelming. Blog, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Twitter, where does it end? I can’t keep up, haha. But I like your Tumbler page…looks fun.

    • Thanks. I have cut back considerably on social media because most of it is a huge waste of time. But, thanks for checking out my tumblr. it’s meh, but it is fun..when i remember to do something with it.

Push it out, shove it out, waaaaay out...
