So the verdict for the Anthony Abbate Jr. civil trial was announced earlier this evening in Chicago.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with this story, click on the links above and below for more info. Also, if you can stomach it, you can watch the video of the beating below.
Look for my story later on Gaper’s Block.
Nice to know that justice was served. What an abusive nasty brute.
This verdict is unfair. It should’ve included Abbate in a room, handcuffed to a chair, the bartender with a wooden bat, and 15 minutes of the door locked.
Okay – you’re right, that’s too violent. Wrap the bat in a layer of bubble wrap.
he was already convicted in the criminal trial a couple of years ago, but I like the way you think.
It was interesting watching both of them in the courtroom–both sat there stonefaced. Whenever the video was shown, Karolina looked down and Anthony watched it.
it was tough to watch.
It’d be one thing if this event (and the legal and monetary results) guaranteed this would never happen again.
Unfortunately, at least until they make androids, you’re always gonna attract thugs to the police.
sadly i think the code of silence is so insconced–not just in law enforcement–but in so many other professions that it’s not going anywhere.
I spoke to a couple of experts about the ‘code’ and they said it’s tough to get it out of law enforcement–you need ot start on day one of the police academy.
